ALTERNATE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS — Photographer & Interviewer
Interviewed and photographed six high schoolers who’d nearly quit high school before they began attending the alternative high school where they began to dream for the first time.
Every student reported that the smaller project-based school offered the academic and emotional support that had been missing in a larger school. Each one benefited and thrived in the new environment, and received their high school diploma.
Audience shift: These students’ stories of transformation were shared with the local community. The stories unraveled the community’s widespread preconceptions that the students were troublemakers and dropouts; and transformed how the community regarded the school.
